The Yugas/ The Great Year
In 1895 Swami Sri Yukteswar (1855-1936) wrote the book “The Holy Science” which outlines the Yugas: cycles that determine the level of conscious awareness we experience on earth in synchronicity with the earth’s orbit of the sun and the precession of the equinoxes.
The Yuga cycles (because of their synchronous effect on humanity’s level of conscious awareness) determine the rise and fall of civilizations.
(Sri Yukteswar was correcting a misinterpretation of the Hindu Yugas which he traced back to approximately 3101 BCE, (just after the descending Dwapara Yuga). Back at this time what he discovered was that there had been no-one left to correctly calculate the Yuga ages properly which resulted in a mathematical miscalculation. He explains that there was confusion between ‘divine years’ and ‘human years’ which has perpetuated a misunderstanding in which the length of the Yugas has been greatly extended).
The Yuga cycle, Sri Yukteswar explains, should be 24,000 years and happens in synchronicity with the precession of the equinoxes.
The precession of the equinoxes he explains is actually caused by our suns complete orbit around its dual star. He further explains that as the earth becomes nearer and then subsequently farther away from it’s galactic center (aka. Brahma) there is a change in the consciousness of humanity.
‘Dharma’(or mental virtue) is lowest when farthest from Brahma at the descending- ascending intersection (cycle-bottom)’ where the opposite occurs at the (cycle-top) where Dharma is at it’s highest level. At dharma’s lowest (499 CE) humanity cannot understand anything beyond the gross material world.
These great cycles have been known by other names throughout the world.
Plato called the Yuga cycle ‘the Great Year‘ and the corresponding ages were referred to as the ‘Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron Ages’.

The diagram below outlines how our history fits into this 24,000 year Yuga cycle. This 24,000 year Yuga cycle also helps explain WHY we are finding structures that have a complexity and level of craftmanship that cannot be explained within our current template of reality (linear evolution).
