The Midheaven
What is the Midheaven?
The Midheaven, also referred to as the MC or the Medium Coeli is literally the middle of the sky in the birth chart.
In many house systems such as Placidus and Koch the MC literally forms the cusp of the 10th house. In house systems where it does not form the cusp of the 10th house (such as the whole sign house system shown above) it is labelled separately in the chart. Directly below the Medium Coeli on the bottom part of the chart is the IC or Imum Coeli.
How the PUBLIC sees us.
Traditionally the MC indicates our public standing or reputation. It also depicts career, status, goals, aims in life, and aspirations. The sign on the Midheaven will often indicate what kind of career, reputation or vocation the chart holder will pursue. Quite often it can also refer to a parent, usually the mother but sometimes the father. The other parent will be represented by the Imum Coeli.
