Chiron

chiron“Chiron in our natal charts points to where we have healing powers as the result of our own deep spiritual wounds. We may over-compensate in these areas of life. Chiron, as a wounded healer, first must face issues of low self-worth and feelings of inadequacy and learn to rise above these issues. Because the wound goes deep, and we may work hard to overcome the wound, healing powers are potent.” (cafe.astrology.com)

“Astrologically Chiron represents both how we are wounded, and also how we may tend to wound others (as a result of our own woundedness)” Kevin Burk.

chironmcanndraDiscovered in 1977 by Charles T. Kowal of the Hale Observatories in Pasadena, California, Chiron is named after a centaur in Greek mythology. Chiron was too small for a planet and too large for an asteroid and so the term ‘Planetoid’ was coined to describe Chiron.

Symbolic of a bridge Chiron’s orbit crosses the orbit of Saturn to that of Uranus. Chiron is considered somewhat of a maveric, a wanderer, an outsider and an exile both astronomically and astrologically as he does not quite seem to belong to the solar system but rather travels through it, taking approximately 51 years to complete one cycle around the sun.

“Where Chiron is in the natal chart signifies  experiences whose urgency prompts our spiritual awakening. From this basis, consciousness flowers, healing is encouraged, and miracles are witnessed; we are empowered to face the darkness and suffering within ourselves, in others, and indeed in the world at large.

Chiron’s motif, the centaur, half animal and half human, is representative of the periods of transition that we experience personally and collectively; the process of Chiron reveals our suffering and indicates what needs release and healing. When we must relinquish the past we know for a future which beckons from the unknown, a threshold struggle ensues.”
