Fifth (5th) House
House of Children/Good Fortune
FIFTH HOUSE SPECIFICS
How the Native reproduces itself and extends its life : CHILDREN
‘The primary significations of the fifth house arise from the planet Venus who rejoices there, as well as from its ancient name, Good Fortune (agathē tuchē)… The fifth house derives it’s meaning from it’s relationship to the first house, the preeminent place of the native’s life force…Firmicus Maternus emphasized the trine aspect configuration between the first and fifth houses that points to how the native reproduces itself and extends its life by means of its procreative activities. Children are the most basic signification of the fifth house, one which has remained constant throughout the entire tradition.”
Demetra George Ancient Astrology In Theory & Practice Vol II p.697
The need to be Loved for our Specialness and the Desire to Create from Inside Ourselves.
“…the Sun is like the personal ego or the ‘I’, the centre of consciousness around which the different aspects of the self revolve. Individuals with strong placements in the 5th partake of the qualities of the Sun. They need to shine and create from inside themselves; they need to feel influential; and they need to feel that others are revolving around them. To some this means literally always being the center of attention- a craving to be worshipped like the Sun… Embedded deep in our psyches, and reverberating throughout the 5th house, is an innate desire to be recognized for our specialness… These two principles, the need to be loved for our specialness and the desire to create from inside ourselves underlie most of the traditional associations with the fifth house.”
Advancements & Success/Acts of Good or Beneficence
“The fifth is called the place of Good Fortune, and it is the joy of Venus. The primary signification associated with the fifth place is children… the fifth is generally associated with an increase of things pertaining to livelihood, especially in terms of the native’s material fortunes and personal wealth. The nature of the planets associated with the fifth signify the means of the native’s advancements or success. Negative placements connected with the fifth are associated with a loss of personal assets through misfortune…. Benefics are usually interpreted as being more benefic, while the malefics are viewed as being less malefic. Valens generally associates the fifth with “any act of good or beneficence,” including things like the freeing of slaves, generosity, or friendship.”

“The function of the sun in our solar system is twofold; it shines, giving warmth, heat and life to the Earth, but it also serves as the central organizing principle around which the planets orbit. In this sense, the Sun is like the personal ego or the ‘I’, the centre of consciousness around which the different aspects of the self revolve. Individuals with strong placements in the 5th partake of the qualities of the Sun. They need to shine and create from inside themselves; they need to feel influential; and they need to feel that others are revolving around them. To some this means literally always being the center of attention- a craving to be worshipped like the Sun… Embedded deep in our psyches, and reverberating throughout the 5th house, is an innate desire to be recognized for our specialness… Another keynote of the 5th is ‘generativity’-which simply defined means ‘the ability to produce’. These two principles, the need to be loved for our specialness and the desire to create from inside ourselves underlie most of the traditional associations with the fifth house.”
